Maiduguri - The National Union of Borno Students (NUBOSS) on Monday
appealed to the Federal Government to explore new strategies of tackling
the Boko Haram menace in the country.
NUBOSS made this appeal in a statement signed by its President, Isah Mohammed-Biu, in Maiduguri.
Mohammed-Biu in the statement, said government must take proactive measures to end the carnage by the Boko Haram sect.
"We
wish to express our concern over the wanton destruction of lives and
property by the sect, particularly in Borno. The renewed violence has
disrupted the emerging peace in the state.
"As students, we feel the impact of the attacks on our parents, brothers and sisters in the society.
"As
a pressure group, we are duty bound to call on the Federal Government
to take proactive action to end the menace of the sect's activities.
"The government must explore new avenues, especially the use of sophisticated gadgets in fighting the terrorist group."
He lamented that many students had been killed in different attacks by the sect.
"Many students have been murdered in cold blood in the past and recent attacks by the sect without justification.
"We, therefore, call on the National Assembly to team up with the Federal Government to take a stand on the issue to
form a common front to fight the Boko Haram menace."
It commended Gov. Kashim Shettima’s continued assistance to victims of the attacks.
"We
appreciate the efforts of Shettima in assisting the victims of the
numerous attacks by rebuilding houses destroyed and paying medical bills
of the injured", he said.
He called on the people to commence special prayers for divine intervention and return of peace to the state.
