Thirty four commercial sex workers and
11 men have been sentenced to six weeks imprisonment by a Magistrate’s
Court in Kano for prostitution and inciting disturbance.
The accused persons were arrested by
officials of the Kano State Hisbah Board, following a letter of
complaints from the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.
According to the charge sheet, the accused persons were arrested on February 19th at a hotel around 2pm, committing an act which is contrary to Section 143 (C) of the Kano State Criminal Procedure Code 1991.
All the accused persons pleaded guilty to three-count charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting distur-bance and prostitution.
Police prosecutor, Ins-pector Anthony Edward, said the offenses are contrary to Sections 97, and 5 of the Penal Code Law.
