A female student at the College of Education, Waka-Biu, in Biu Local
Government Area of Borno State was on Friday night slaughtered in her
school dormitory by two young men, one suspected to be a jealous
boyfriend.
Though the name of the dead victim is yet to be ascertained, sources in
Biu said the girl was trailed to her dormitory and attacked by the two
young men who slit her throat.
According to an official of the local government council, who pleaded
anonymity, the two young men were however arrested by the security
operatives in the school after other students raised alarm.
“The two assailants were not from Biu Local Government Area; they come
from somewhere and followed the girl to the hostel and slaughtered her. I
believe they may have some issue concerning relationship with her if
not they would not have singled her out for killing”, said the source.
“It was after the incident that the students raised alarm and mobilised
the security operatives in the school to round up the two of them and
later handed them over to the soldiers who took them to the barracks”,
added the local government official.
It was learnt that minutes after the incident occurred, residents of Biu
took to the streets, and some rushed back to their homes amidst rumours
that Boko Haram insurgents had invaded the town and were attacking
students in the College.
The murder occurred at about 7 p.m. when the students were in their hostels.
The College of Education, Waka Biu, is one of the oldest post-primary
institutions built by the colonial masters before it was handed over to
the Biu Native Authority.
