TERROR: Soldiers kill 20 Insurgents During Foiled Attack In Borno

Major Gen Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information, has said that they have killed another 20 insurgents and seized different calibers of machine guns and improvised explosive devices when they foiled yet another attack on two villages, Mafa and Ajiri in Borno State.

The defence spokesman said this in an electronic mail on Thursday, adding that some soldiers were injured in the attack.
 
A community member had said that the injured soldiers who were on their way to confront the Boko Haram members at Mafa ran into an ambush by 8pm in which three of them sustained injuries.
 
It was stated that the soldiers later stormed the camps with reinforcement from the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri.
 
According to Olukolade, several of the camps of the insurgents in Borno and Adamawa were destroyed in the encounters between the insurgents and troops.
 
“Attempts by terrorists to attack Ajiri and Mafa as well as other communities in the outskirt of Maiduguri and Dikwa in Borno State towards the Cameroon borders, yesterday were foiled by the security forces.
 
“The ambush mounted by the terrorists to enable them unleash terror on the communities unchallenged, was also cleared by troops on reinforcement mission.
 
 “Arms captured from the terrorists include various brands of machine guns and improvised explosive devices.
 
“Twenty insurgents died in the encounter, while our troops sustained varying degree of injuries.  Also, more camps were destroyed yesterday in encounters at various forests and mountain locations around Adamawa and Borno States,” he said
