
The owner of the fowls, Mr. Aligwiwade Paul had on October 3, 2012, approached the Nasarawa Senior Magistrate’s Court over the alleged theft of the fowls, valued at N336,000.
It was gathered that the cost of each of the stolen fowl was N1, 200.
According to Paul, out of the 550 fowls he had in his poultry farmthe accused stole 280 fowls which was why he reported the matter to Calvary Police Station .
Paul stated further that after the police arrested the accused, he promised to pay N10,000 each week to him until he finished paying the value of the chickens.
However, after paying the N10, 000 in the first week, the accused defaulted in the subsequent weeks.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft.
Counsel to the accused, Mr. lebechi Anayo, prayed the court to set his client free, saying the complainant had no evidence to proof his case.
Mr Alihassan Sabo, counsel to the complainant, pleaded that the matter to be adjourned to another date as policeman handling the case was not in the court.
The presiding officer, Mr Vincent Gwamba, subsequently adjourned the case to March 7
