Jonathan Pays Courtesy Visit To Sultan Of SokotoDespite failure of one of the presidential jets in Minna, President Goodluck Jonathan did not change his plans, took a smaller one and landed in Sokoto safely on March 8, 2014, Saturday.
The Governor of Sokoto, Aliyu Wamakko, met the president at the airport and they went together to the Sultan’s palace.
In his address to President Goodluck Jonathan the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged him to use presidential powers to stop the killing of innocent people in North East and Benue.
The sultan further asked the president to do everything possible to bring all the political and religious leaders and all the ethnic nationalities together to tackle the insurgency.
He further noted that 2015 was an issue that bothering all Nigerians and expressed hope that the visit of the president would strengthen the unity of Nigeria.
President Jonathan praised the sultan for his style of ruling which ensured prevalence of peace and unity.

“We are here not to campaign...
“We are here to seek your fatherly prayers, share ideas and experiences and it is a private visit,” Jonathan said, explaining the purpose of his visit.
In his speech, Gov. Aliyu Wamakko decried the killings of innocent people, urging that it should be stopped.
“Honesty, justice and fair play are attributes that are still relevant in Nigeria,” Wamakko said.
The visit went in good and friendly manner. President Jonathan has even received a white horse as a gift (see below) and departed back to Abuja on the smaller presidential jet.
