.The Liberian Government on Thursday apologised to Nigeria over the importation of the deadly Ebola Virus   by a Liberian-born American, Patrick Sawyer.

Sawyer arrived Lagos on July 20 from Lome but died five days after he was admitted into a hospital in Obalende when he showed Ebola virus symptons.

The Liberian-born American came into contact with 59 people in both the Murtala Mohammed International Airport and the hospital. Eight of the hospital contacts were quarantined at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba.

Ebola: Lagos Begins Man-hunt For 27 Secondary Contacts

The Lagos State Government has commenced an intensive search for 27 secondary contacts, who might have had contacts with doctors, nurses and health workers, who attended to the late Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, at a Lagos private hospital.

JOHANNESBURG Aug 5 (Reuters) - A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit central South Africa on Tuesday, shaking buildings in the financial capital of Johannesburg.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor was centred in Orkney, 120 km (70 miles) southwest of Johannesburg, an area with a high concentration of gold mines.

The earthquake, which struck just before 12:30 was felt from the Free State, to KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga.

First Case Of Suspected Ebola Discovered In New York City, USA.

A patient at Mount Sinai hospital is being tested after traveling to a country where the Ebola virus is present, the hospital said in a statement.

The man arrived at Mount Sinai’s emergency room early Monday morning with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms.

The man told doctors he had recently traveled to a West African country where Ebola is present, the hospital said.

The man has been placed in “strict isolation” and is undergoing various tests to determine the cause of the symptoms, the hospital said.

Those Claiming To Have Cure For Ebola Will Be Arrested – NAFDAC

qThe National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Monday warned that the agency is set to clampdown on people making false claims that they have products that can cure Ebola virus disease.


The Director – General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii who gave the warning in Lagos restated that Ebola virus disease has no cure for now and there is no definite drug that can cure the disease.

The government has confirmed two fresh Ebola cases in Lagos. The medical doctor who attend to late Mr Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian man who brought the deadly Ebola virus into the country, has contacted the virus along with the health worker who also took care of the late man.

Summit: Jonathan's Aides To Undergo Ebola Tests In US

United States, President Barack Obama has revealed that some African participants attending the African/American Leaders Summit billed for Monday in Washington DC will undergo screening for the dreaded Ebola virus.
Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan is expected to be there along his aides and other African leaders.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega has questioned the term Bribe, saying that gifts distributed to the electorate during political campaigns should not be called bribe.

Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu in a recent sit down with journalists said: “If they say people are giving gifts, how do we interpret that (as bribes)? They (the givers) may be telling a lie but if they say they are giving gifts for Ramadan, or if they say they are doing service support, what will INEC be able to do?
“It’s a grey area that is left simply for interpretation. If there is any law that is broken, then we will act on that. How can you tell that what they are doing has anything to do with electoral law?”.
Jega spokesman said that there is however a law that stops distribution of gifts in or around the vicinity of the polling unit on the electoral day.

Ebola: Two People Down With Ebola Symptoms In Lagos - Lagos State Govt

The Lagos State Government has yesterday revealed that two people who contacted Mr Patrick Sawyer, have shown symptoms of fever.
Lagos commisioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris made this revelation when he talked with the media, he said that the two were among the 70 people being closely monitored by the Lagos state government.
The commissioner called for calm and said that both people were in quarantine and said they did not test positive to the virus.
Idris said: “Our Rapid Response Team is currently tracking all contacts of persons exposed to the dead passenger with Ebola virus.
“The contract tracing team is following 70 contacts of the EVD case and linking them to clinical support when needed. “Two suspect cases had fever, they are under observation and so far have tested negative to the virus.

The US is to launch an early-stage testing of the experimental Ebola vaccine in September.

An unnamed Nigerian man has been arrested in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday, 23 July, 2014 after the cocaine he was allegedly carrying burst in his belly.

Gen. Buhari Survives Bomb Explosion In Kaduna

Latest reports coming in from northern Nigeria suggest that Nigeria’s former Head of State, Gen Muhamadau Buhari was the target of one of the bomb attacks that happened in Kaduna on Wednesday, 23 July, 2014.

Sahara Reporters reports that a source close to Buhari informed that a second bomb explosion that rocked the Kawo bus station in Kaduna today appeared to have targeted Buhari’s convoy.

Former Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari was reportedly almost killed in the second bomb explosion that happened few hours after the first attack.

Eyewitnesses and humanitarian workers told newsmen that the death toll from both explosions has risen over 50.
Also,  Kaduna police chief, Umar Shehu, who confirmed that the two explosions occurred in about 3-hour interval.

Chibok: Mothers Storm Maiduguri Hospital Over Reports Of Girls' Release

Mothers of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls on Tuesday stormed General Muhammadu Shuwa Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State following reports that the state government ordered more than 200 mattresses allegedly for the girls.

A nurse at the hospital told Nigerian Tribune that the women heard a rumour that government was bringing the girls to the hospital for medication. "But no girl was brought from among those abducted in Chibok," the nurse disclosed.
It was previously reported that most of the kidnapped girls are facing health challenges, while some are said to be pregnant.
The nurse said the women came to hospital at 9am and left after 3pm. She said she wouldn't be surprised if the women came back the next day as they were "not convinced with whatever we told them".

Scores of girls have been abducted in an attack on a school in north-east Nigeria, parents say.

Gunmen reportedly arrived at the school in Chibok, Borno state, late last night, and ordered the hostel's teenage residents on to four lorries.

Parents told the BBC's Hausa service that at least 200 girls had been abducted. The attackers are thought to be from the Islamist group, Boko Haram.

On Monday, bombings blamed on the group killed more than 70 people in Abuja.

Speaking after the latest attack, a student, who did not wish to be named, told the BBC that she had escaped after seeing her classmates jumping out of the back of a lorry.
